Does anyone know where you can buy big bags of almond meal from?

They only sell tiny 150g bags in Woolworths and they cost about $4 each!

Any info any one can provide would be most appreciated.

Tarnip go to a health food shop.

Another option is to grind your own, this is probably the healthiest and cheapest route as the meal will be fresh and less likely to go rancid. A coffee grinder will do the trick just make sure you're not silly like me and over fill it past the line. I did and it cracked Smile

Oh and if you decide to grind your own, don't buy them from the supermarket, you should find they are much cheaper elsewhere such as farmers markets and fruit and veg shops.

I have been searching for a big bag of this everywhere and can only find the expensive little bags in the supermarket.

Does anyone who lives in Brisbane know a supplier, or otherwise an online supplier?

Thanks in advance

Kirsten, Not sure about up there but in most of the supermakets here you can buy big bags of almonds just near the fruit and vege section. Not where the liitle bags of nuts are. I am sure it is fairly uniform throughout Aus so just check there. Maybe just ask someone as I am sure you will be able to get them. As Sherrie said, just grind them up in your coffee grinder (a worthwhile investment if you don't have one) as you need it. It may be noisy but much fresher and only takes a few seconds to grind up.

The good old grinder comes in handy for a whole host of things, for example, I always dry my chillies and grind them up and put them into little shaker jars. I even use it to grind the peppercorns for pepper steak as it is easier that the mortar and pestal and nothing pops out Shocked That with all the different nuts and oh! of course coffee every now and then for visitors. Wink

The bigger health food stores usually have bins of it and also in larger bags.
Also I keep my nuts and flours in the freezer. I find that I can keep them for ages in the freezer.

My mum just bought me a food processor, it is a pretty hardcore professional one so I was just wondering do you think I would be able to grind up almond meal in this or would just end up as almond butter?

No you can. I have done it in a much smaller unit but it takes time and as it will be moist- just keep an eye on it. I would say try it with a cup of almonds at first.
