My DH loves dim sims (gasp) but they’re pretty carby so I decided to make my own lower carb version to keep in the freezer. Supermarket dim sims are about 12g carbs per dim sim (Golden Wok brand) and full of nasty stuff. Mine came out to approx 3.5g carbs per dim sim (they’re slightly smaller though).
All I really did was increase the meat to 'crap-fillers' ratio of the bought ones but left out the crap of course!
Dim Sims
250g fresh pork mince
50g cabbage, very finely shredded
50g onion, grated
50g carrot, grated
1 tsp garlic, minced
˝ tsp ginger, minced
1 small egg, lightly beaten
2 tsp fish sauce
Salt and white pepper
12 wonton wrappers
Combine ingredients and mix well.
Dampen the sides of each wrapper with water and place 40g of mixture into the centre.
Bring the corners up to tightly enclose the filling. Cup in your hand and press the folds down flat to seal (the filling won’t be completely enclosed but if you examine a bought dim sim, that’s how they are).
Steam until cooked through then freeze.
