Denai's Weight Loss Experience

My name is Denai, and like so many people, I struggle with my weight every day.

I started to "expand" when I reached year 7 at school. I was the only student from my primary school to go to the local private school, all my other friends went to the public one.

I was chubby then, but being shy and self conscious, I started to eat all the wrong things.

After school I'd eat a pie or a microwave hamburger for a snack, and the only thing I'd drink was soft drink or cordial.

When I finished year 12, I had a year off to study by long distance, but I ended up hooked on playing online computer games, and merely sat on my backside for around a year.

Finally I managed to get a job and I decided to start doing something about my weight. I hated being fat, and after reading about heart disease and other weight related illnesses, I got scared and decided to change there and then.

I started out by simply changing my diet, and while this helped for a while, eventually the weight started creeping back on. When I had first started, I was a whopping 122kg - not good for an 18 year old!

After a year of work, I got down to 90kg, but then my grandfather passed away, and I went back to my old eating habits. One day I happened to look into a shop window and realised how big I had gotten again. I stepped on the scales and I was back up to 111kg! I was depressed and miserable.

One day I had to do an errand for my boss, and I passed the tiny gym two doors up from where I work. I don't know what made me do it, but I walked in on impulse and signed up there and then.

My trainer introduced me to the high protein, low carb diet and explained to me how it all works, and I became hooked.

I got my weight down to 80kg, however since I was gaining muscle from my training; I understood that this was not my true weight. Muscle is heavier than fat.

For the last 9 months, I have switched from the basic training to doing Powerlifting - I follow the same diet meticulously, and I am stronger than ever.

I now weigh around 89kg, and I am getting fitter and healthier by the week.

Low carb is the way to go, I have proven it. I am writing a book about how I did it, and I am composing some recipes that I often use myself.
