Kat - A Fresh Outlook

Thanks to genetics, I have always struggled with my weight. That combined with my years of trying to stay skinny by starving myself! In the end my poor metabolism must have been almost stalled! I have tried almost every diet possible over the years, and nothing had worked for me, until now!

Why Atkins? Because I had tried everything else and nothing worked. The fruit fast, the apple cider vinegar diet, the soup diet, the no fat diet, the meat fast, the 500 calorie a day diet, eating good food, eating bad food, etc......I had given up!

I guess I really decided it was time for me to bite the bullet and try to do something with myself when I was finding it easier to fit into my husband's clothes than my own.

If we were going to have friends over, or were going out, I would spend half an hour trying on different things, and giving up in tears because I felt so fat and ugly. Usually I would resort to wearing a pair of jeans, and one of Steven's jumpers! At least with all the bumps covered up I didn't feel quite so frumpy and conspicuous.

Least favourite of all was lingerie shopping. Each time I even thought about it, I would get nauseous and teary. Thinking about all the sexy stuff you could get if you were a size 10 made me literally sick, and not being able to pay under $80 for an ugly bra that made me feel the size of a house and only made my purse lighter!

One day I looked at myself in the mirror and just couldn't take it any more. So, with the support of my husband Steven, my mother Marj, and all my newfound friends on Empower I embarked on a journey to change my life. I couldn’t have done it without the friendship and support of all these people, and I owe them all so much for their unending kindness.

That was exactly 6 months ago to the day and since then I have lost 13 kilos, gained so much more confidence, and even converted a few "low-fatters" along the way!

I would recommend this lifestyle to anyone! And yes, it is a life style change! Don't think of low carbing as a quick fix, if you are willing to do the hard yards it's a very rewarding way of life!

Food diary before...

Breakfast: 2 slices dry wholemeal bread, 1 green apple

Mid-morning: K-Time Muffin Bar

Lunch: Undressed garden salad

Mid-afternoon: Lite cup of soup

Dinner: Grilled lean meat, mashed potato, peas, carrot, corn, brocolli

After dinner: Crackers with lite cheese

Drinks: Coke and other cordials

Food diary now:

Breakfast: Bacon and eggs, or low carb muffin or breakfast bar

Mid-morning: Tin of tuna

Lunch: Stirfry vegies with meat

Mid-afternoon: Normally nothing

Dinner: Meat, beans, brocolli, cauliflower

After dinner: Strawberries and cream

Drinks: Water and diet softdrinks.
