Low Carb Versus Low Fat.

A landmark study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine has created a stir amongst followers of the traditional low fat high carbohydrate diet. The study compared a standard low fat diet with a low carbohydrate ketogenic diet. The results showed that the low carbohydrate diet had better participant retention and greater weight loss. During the active weight loss phase serum triglyceride levels decreased and HDL levels increased more with the low carb diet than with the low fat diet.

It has been proven that the low fat diet has limited beneficial effects for the cardiovascular system, yet healthcare professionals still continue to recommend them. In this study a ketogenic diet was shown to have superior fat loss, as well as more effectively reducing the cardiovascular risk markers than a low fat diet.

The low carbohydrate ketogenic diet is an effective, fast and long lasting approach to fat loss. An ever increasing amount of research supports the efficacy of this way of eating.
